Red Lentil Dahl
Smooth Spicy Pumpkin Soup
This dahl is lean and mean, for less time cooking and more time doing other super important stuff like emails and vacuuming. It’s still healthy and full-flavoured, so there’s not a compromise in sight.
The core idea of the dish rests on red lentils, which cook much faster than other varieties. If you can cook well, this dish can go from the pantry to the plate in under 45 minutes.
Blueberry Cacao Smoothie
Pumpkin soup is an absolute favourite of almost everyone, including many who don’t eat pumpkin otherwise. This particular recipe is spicy, smooth and intense.
Gone is the bland pumpkin soup of yore. Roasting the pumpkin first and adding plenty of spices makes this a tasty aromatic meal. Mm.
Brilliant Beetroot Hummus
I smash one of these delicious smoothies back almost every day.
It can be hard in today’s life to squeeze in all of the fruit, leafy greens, and other various “superfoods” that you should be eating. The current trend is to throw all of these things in a cup and blend them to smithereens.
I tend to agree.
Coconut, Lentil and Kumura Yellow Dahl
It’s very easy, very simple, and very cheap to make your own hummus. It’s also very versatile – throw in a few extra ingredients and presto, fancy hummus!
This hummus has a beet and cumin thrown in, which gives it a brilliant scarlet colour and earthy spiciness.
Dahl is such a delicious and warming treat to eat. This version is packed full of subtle flavours, backed up by the rich fullness of coconut cream.
The Story Behind the Shot: Whakatāne Morning View Towards Moutohorā
Purple porridge is a delicious, healthy and colourful way to start the day. Oats are wholesome, nutritious and low GI. They are also great at lowering cholesterol, improving blood sugar levels, and aiding weight-loss. To make it even more healthful, I add blueberries, spices, chia seeds and flaxseeds.
'Oho Ake – Rise Up' Edgecumbe Flood Relief Concert Photos
I drive down Hillcrest every morning on the way to work, and I always see this particular view coming down the hill. I was finally early enough, and on a nice enough day, to get the shot.
The Photography in Eastbay REAP House
I had the pleasure of contributing to Oho Ake – Rise Up as photographer. See inside for photographic goodness.
Photography 101: Exposure
I captured a series of images for Eastbay REAP capturing the Bay of Plenty's landscapes, from Opotiki to Murupara and everywhere in-between.
A selection of these works have been writ large and hung throughout the building.
Artist, designer, photographer
Photography is primarily about light – you need to control the light to create an exposure.
ISO, shutter speed, and aperture.
Artist, graphic designer, or photographer? It’s difficult to decide what to list first when describing multi-talented young Whakatane man, James Stanbridge.
